Natasha Martins

Bio note

Natasha Martins is a doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) and a PhD student in Anthropology at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL). She also holds a Master's Degree in Science of Religions from the Lusófona University of Lisbon and a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos. Her training in different areas has allowed for the development of scientific interests that establish connections between health, religiosities, practices and culture. She is currently a full-time doctoral researcher at ReSpell, on a project that explores blessing practices (‘benzimento’) and their connections with spirituality, well-being and transreligiosity. Her research focuses on popular and contemporary religiosities, with special emphasis on the field of magic.

Over the past few years, Natasha has led the pioneering ethnographic project of religious cartography in Portugal, entitled ‘Carta das Religiões de Odivelas’. In this context, she produced two public audiovisual products of a socio-educational nature, supported by the High Commission for Migrations-ACM. In her master's thesis, ‘Art in Candomblé: a feminine reading of the works of Neves e Sousa’, and in articles published nationally and internationally, she sought to establish dialogues between cultural identities, traditions, ritual performance, experiences and their transformations in the contemporary sphere.

Her scientific approach seeks to innovate and adapt to the needs of today's world. In addition to her academic work, Natasha is also dedicated to the creation and scientific dissemination of content about religious phenomena on social networks, through which she maintains a source of dialogue and contact between the most varied world visions.
